PreACT 8/9 and PreACT are available in paper-pencil and online test modes. PreACT Secure is available as an online test only (with limited paper-pencil accommodations).

Test Structure

Yes, PreACT 8/9, PreACT, and PreACT Secure align to the same 1-36 ACT score scale, with 30 being the highest possible PreACT 8/9 score and 35 being the highest possible PreACT or PreACT Secure score.

Yes, PreACT 8/9, PreACT, and PreACT Secure all cover English, math, reading, and science. The duration of each test is slightly shorter than the ACT, with slightly fewer items in some subject areas.

Ordering

New this year — All PreACT assessments will be ordered via one online form that is found at the enrollment page. If you are a renewing customer, you will receive a personalized link that prefills your form via email starting in June. For 2024-25, customers in Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Oregon will continue to order through the previous CCRIS system.

Reporting

PreACT 8/9 PreACT PreACT Secure

Paper reports: Student Report containing Item Analysis, Student Score Label (two copies printed and shipped for each student and sent to the organization for distribution). 

Online reports including: Item Response Summary Report, Student Report, Educator Reports, and more.  

Test booklets: Are available after testing-- either retained by the organization (for paper testing) or provided as a PDF (online testing).

For PreACT 8/9 and PreACT, customers may retain the test booklet for use with the Item Response portion of the reports. Due to the secure nature of PreACT Secure, no items will be released, and all accommodated paper tests will need to be returned to ACT.

PreACT 8/9 Student Reports include predicted PreACT score ranges. Reports for all three include predicted ACT score ranges and an Indicator of Progress toward the ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate (WorkKeys NCRC).

Practice for PreACT Assessments

A PreACT Secure practice test (click on "Practice Tests" link under the log in box) went live January 2024 on TestNav​. 

  • Can be used for all PreACT products for practice​. 
  • Both timed and untimed versions​. 
  • Use for tech check for PreACT 8/9 online and PreACT online​. 
  • Practice with online testing tools/environment​. 
  • No login needed.
