Scholarship Giveaway FAQs

(These FAQs are summaries only and are qualified in their entirety by the complete Official Rules)

To be eligible to enter the ACT Scholarship Giveaway (which is referred to in these FAQs as the sweepstakes), you must, at the time of entry, be a permanent legal resident of the 50 United States of America, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico, at least 13 years old, and in the tenth (10th), eleventh (11th), or twelfth (12th) grade (or, if home schooled, in the equivalent of tenth (10th), eleventh (11th), or twelfth (12th) grade, and projected to be eligible to attend a post-secondary educational institution no later than October 1, 2022).  Satisfaction of these “General Eligibility Requirements” is required to be eligible to receive one of the seven “General Prizes” (a $15,000 scholarship and a $5,000 tech package) in the sweepstakes.

Additionally, to be eligible to receive one of the seven “Supplementary Prizes” (a $15,000 scholarship and a $5,000 tech package) in the sweepstakes, in addition to meeting the General Eligibility Requirements, you must also meet the eligibility requirements for receiving an ACT fee waiver for the ACT test. The requirements for student eligibility for an ACT fee waiver (and information regarding the ACT fee waiver) are listed at https://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/FeeWaiver.pdf; provided, however, for purposes of eligibility for a Supplementary Prize in the sweepstakes, testing (if you register for the ACT test for an automatic entry in the sweepstakes) must be only for the 50 United States of America, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico (and does not include testing for U.S. territories other than Puerto Rico).  If you enter the sweepstakes by using the alternate method of entry at the ACT Academy (which does not require ACT test registration or purchase), you must affirm that you meet the ACT fee waiver eligibility requirements in your entry form.  A potential winner who has included his/her entry in a drawing for a Supplementary Prize will be required to provide an affidavit of satisfaction of both the General Eligibility Requirements for the sweepstakes and the “Fee Waiver Eligibility Requirements” for the sweepstakes as a condition to claiming a Supplementary Prize.

ACT wants to provide an additional special opportunity to students eligible for an ACT test fee waiver.  To be eligible to receive one of the seven “Supplementary Prizes” (a $15,000 scholarship and a $5,000 tech package) in the sweepstakes, in addition to meeting the General Eligibility Requirements, you must also meet the eligibility requirements for receiving an ACT fee waiver for the ACT test.

There are two methods of entry in the sweepstakes.  You will receive an automatic entry by registering online with ACT at www.ACT.org to take the October 2019, December 2019, February 2020, April 2020, June 2020 or July 2020 U.S. national ACT test for testing to occur in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico (to the extent online registration is available to you for the selected ACT test date).  If you register for the ACT test but do not desire an entry in the sweepstakes, see the Official Rules for entry opt-out instructions.  Alternately, you can create a free student account in the ACT Academy and complete an online entry form within your account which is the free alternate method of entry for the sweepstakes and does not require ACT test registration or purchase.  See Official Rules for instructions and make sure you pay attention to the sweepstakes entry periods, and note the limits on entries.

The online ACT test registration automatic method of entry is only available for U.S. national ACT test experiences. If you’re taking the ACT on a week day provided by your state or district, you can either register for and re-test on a later U.S. national ACT test date (including, if you are eligible, by using an ACT fee waiver), or alternately, enter by using the free alternate method of entry in ACT Academy which does not require ACT test registration or purchase. See Official Rules for instructions and make sure you pay attention to the sweepstakes entry periods, and note the limits on entries.

If you registered for a U.S. national ACT test to occur between October 2019 and July 2020 prior to the start of the ACT Scholarship Giveaway, you can still enter by registering for another of these ACT tests or, alternately, enter by using the free alternate method of entry in ACT Academy which does not require ACT test registration or purchase.

There are a total of seven “General Prizes” in the sweepstakes open to all eligible entrants, and an additional seven “Supplementary Prizes” available only to entrants who also use an ACT fee waiver in connection with an ACT test registration or indicate their eligibility to use an ACT fee waiver when completing the entry form using the free alternate method of entry in the ACT Academy.  All winners will receive one $15,000 scholarship (payable over four years) and a technology prize bundle ($5,000 retail value).  One General Prize and one Supplementary Prize will be drawn on each of the six sweepstakes drawing dates, with the exception of the October 30, 2019 drawing date, when two General Prizes and two Supplementary Prizes will be drawn. See the Official Rules for prize information, requirements and restrictions.
