For three years, sophomores at Cedar Mountain High School in rural Minnesota have taken PreACT®, which predicts their future success on the ACT® test. The following year, these students have a unique opportunity—to enroll in a junior-level class fully dedicated to ACT preparation.
Michael Menth, a social studies teacher at Cedar Mountain High School, instructs the ACT Test Preparation class. Students enrolled in the course use ACT® Online Prep—an interactive test prep offering from the makers of the ACT—to help improve their scores and their confidence. ACT Online Prep offers a personalized learning path where students can choose from a variety of activities with comprehensive content review.
In addition to ACT Online Prep, Michael uses ACT® Academy™, a free online instructional content platform for students, educators, and parents. The platform includes a test prep tool for students with personalized, self-guided plans based on test results from PreACT and the ACT. Michael finds that ACT Academy helps students make up a lot of ground quickly by letting each one put a more concentrated focus on an area they might be struggling with.
Lastly, Michael uses The Official ACT Prep Guide, which rounds out the preparation offering. “We’re trying to give them as many avenues as possible, and they’ll use them as they need,” Michael says.
“We’re trying to make this a whole approach where schools, students, and parents are all aligned to giving our students the best grades possible on their ACT.”
